General Information

Ken and his partners built Law Mooney Williamson Insurance Brokers (est. 1974) into one of NZ's largest commercial insurance brokerages. They sold 'LMW' to Crombie Lockwood in 2007 and he is now employed in their Hamilton office. Ken is a Fellow of the Insurance Brokers Association of NZ.

Ken has dedicated his life to community service and has been a governor on a diverse range of Not-for-Profit boards, including within tertiary & secondary education, health, philanthropy, special needs, broadcasting, women's refuge, science, and local body sectors. In addition, he is a director of several highly successful businesses including within the distribution, manufacturing and engineering industries, and commercial property sector. Ken is passionate about the work of the Young Enterprise Trust and he's mentored many high achieving student teams and also acts as a 'YES' judge. He is one of a small number of Chartered Fellows of the Institute of Directors in NZ and is a long serving committee member of the IOD's Waikato Branch. Ken is a Justice of the Peace and has received a Queen Service Medal (QSM), a Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship and a Chief of Air Staff RNZAF commendation for his services to the community.

He commenced his involvement with the Order of St John in 1969 and is currently the Deputy Chair of its Central Region's and a trustee of their Priory Trust Board, the Order's national governing body. Her Majesty appointed Ken as a Commander of the Order in 2016.

Ken Lives with his wife on a small life style block north of Hamilton. Their beloved daughter Kate graduated from the University of Waikato in 2016. Ken is extraordinarily proud of his 22 year involvement with the McKenzie Centre and believes its real strength is in its people and how much they care for the Centre's very special children. Ken believes in the words of Winston Churchill, "We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give".
